Djokovic arrives in London for Laureus award ceremony



The world’s best player arrived in London, where he will attend the 2012 Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony tomorrow.

Djokovic, along with other candidates, will meet the British Prime Minister David Cameron tomorrow afternoon. It will be the second time in the last couple of years that our champion is invited to visit the British Prime Minister in his residence in famous 10 Downing Street. Last time, Novak met with David Cameron at 10 Downing Street with Nadal, Federer, Murray and other WTF participants in November 2010.

At the audience with Cameron, Novak could take the opportunity to promote Serbia as he’s always been doing in the best possible way, all around the world.

Novak is among favourites for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award. The Ceremony will be staged in the heart of London at Central Hall, Westminster and the Nominees are: Lionel Messi (Argentina, football), Usain Bolt (Jamaica, athletics), Dirk Nowitzki (Germany, basketball), Sebastian Vettel (Germany, Formula 1), Cadel Evans (Australia, cycling)… Sports stars from around the world who will attend the ceremony include Seles, Becker, Shearer, Tomba, Pistorius, Indurain, Leconte, Comaneci, Coulthard, Pacquiao, Bubka, Spitz, Charlton, Moses…

The Laureus World Sports Awards, which recognise sporting achievement, are the premier honours on the international sporting calendar.

Many of winners who received Awards at previous Awards Ceremonies, are members of the Laureus Foundation.

Proceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards directly benefit and underpin the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which supports 91 community sports projects around the world. Since its inception, Laureus has raised €40 million for projects which have improved the lives of many young people.

Sporting greats, past and present, celebrities and royal family members will be in the audience.

The winners are voted by the Laureus World Sports Academy, the ultimate sports jury made up of 47 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of all time.

The categories are: Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, World Team of the Year, World Breakthrough of the Year, World Comeback of the Year, World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability, World Action Sportsperson of the Year.
