Nole wins ESPY award

Nole won the Best Male Tennis Player award at the 20th Annual ESPY Awards ceremony held in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

The ESPY, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, honors sports achievement in the past calendar year, with the winners decided by online fan balloting at the ESPN website.

Nole came out ahead over both of his hottest tennis rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

He was also nominated for Best Male Athlete (won by LeBron James) and Best International Athlete (won by Lionel Messi).

In 2011, Novak won three Grand Slam titles (Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open) and a record five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies. He put together the fourth-longest run at no.1 since making his debut atop the ATP Rankings on July 4, 2011.

The award for Best Female Tennis Player went to Maria Sharapova.
