Hopman Cup: Nole and Ana strong for Serbia’s victory over Kazakhstan

World no.3 Novak Djokovic has made a successful start of his 2011 season winning the opening men’s singles match at the Hyundai Hopman Cup XXIII for Serbia’s first victory in group A.

Nole came back from a set down to defeat no.36 in the ATP Rankings, Kazakhstan’s Andrey Golubev 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Earlier today Ana Ivanovic won a women’s singles match beating Yaroslava Shvedova 7-6(6), 6-1.

Serbia scored the third victory in the mixed doubles. Novak and Ana beat Kazakhstan’s duo Golubev/Shvedova 7-6, 6-4.

Former world no.2 and 2008 Australian Open champion Djokovic and former world no.1 and 2008 French Open winner Ivanovic are teaming together for the second time in Perth having first played in 2006 as 18-year-olds. Nole and Ana deservedly arrived in 2011 as the top seeds and as the favourites to win the title.

Serbia continues it’s campaign on Tuesday, January 4, against Australia, when Ana faces Alicia Molik, and Nole plays against Lleyton Hewitt.
