Novak pulls out of Shanghai Masters

Nole has been forced to withdraw from the Shanghai Rolex Masters Tournament which starts on October 9, at Qi Zhong Stadium.

The world no.1 indicated the back injury that has troubled him in recent weeks has not healed enough for him to be able to play.

“I am sorry not to be playing in Shanghai, one of my favourite tournaments, but I have not recovered yet from my injury”, Novak said. “I did another check this week and the results are not good so I need to continue my rehabilitation.”

“Shanghai is doing a great job every year as one of the best organised tennis events in the world. I look forward to playing in Shanghai and meeting my Chinese fans in 2012.”

Tournament director Michael Luevano wishes Novak a speedy recovery.

“We are sorry to hear that the injury has not responded enough to treatment and we truly wish Novak the best for the rest of this year and in 2012,” said Luevano. “Novak is a great ambassador for our sport and all of us at the Shanghai Rolex Masters and his legions of fans in China look forward to welcoming him back next year.”
