Rafael Nadal has ended Nole’s quest for second US Open crown in a thrilling final at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Monday. The second-seeded Spaniard beat the top seed and 2011 champion Novak Djokovic in four sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in three hours and 21 minutes.
Novak failed at the final hurdle of this year’s Wimbledon, losing 4-6, 5-7, 4-6 to no.2.seed Andy Murray in three hours and 9 minutes.
This is Novak’s ninth appearance on Parisian clay (31-8 record). The 26-year-old Belgrade native reached finals for the first time last year, falling to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in four sets 4-6, 3-6, 6-2, 5-7.
