Nole plays his first match at the ATP World Tour Finals in London today.
At 3pm CET Novak faces no.6 seed Czech Tomas Berdych.
”It would be great to start the tournament with a win over Berdych, but you can’t plan anything at Masters. This is a competition with no real favorite, each of the eight contestants could win the title.”
The match between the other two players in Group A, Andy Roddick and Rafael Nadal, is in the evening programme. The top-seeded Spaniard thinks that Nole is the favorite to win the leading position in the group.
”Novak is playing the Masters for the fourth time and this surface perfectly suits him. “
Rafa and Nole will clash either on Wednesday or Friday.
On the first day of the competition in London, the homecrowd favorite Andy Murray and no.2 seed Roger Federer scored wins. They both triumphed easily in their first matches in Group B. Murray was better than Robin Soderling 6-2, 6-4, while Federer beat David Ferrer 6-1, 6-4.
After the opening match in singles competition, a ceremony marking retirement from tennis of the former world number one, Spaniard Carlos Moya, was held at the O2. He was greeted by 17,500 fans.
Novak and former Roland Garros champion met four times, their H2H is 2-2.
