Singles draw has been made for the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, taking place at the Monte-Carlo Country Club from April 11 until April 18.
Novak is a top seed and has a first-round BYE. The world no.1 will open his 2021 clay-court season campaign against Jannik Sinner (ITA, ATP #22, H2H 0-0) on Wednesday, in his first appearance since winning the historic ninth Australian Open title.
Novak’s potential rivals in the later stages of the tournament are:
3rd round: Hubert Hurkacz (POL, 13), Dusan Lajovic (SRB)
Quarter-finals: Alexander Zverev (GER, 5), David Goffin (BEL, 11)
Semi-finals: Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE, 4), Matteo Berrettini (ITA, 8), Cristian Garin (CHI, 16)
Daniil Medvedev (RUS, 2), Rafael Nadal (ESP, 3), Andrey Rublev (RUS, 6), Diego Schwartzman (ARG, 7)… are in opposite half of the draw, and Novak can’t meet them before the final.
Djokovic won the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters title twice, in 2013 and 2015.
He lost to Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 6-4, 2-6 in 2019 quarter-finals. Last year, the tournament was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Italian Fabio Fognini is a defending champion (*2019).
This will be Novak’s 14th appearance at the event (34-11 record).
