World number 1 Novak Djokovic and British athlete Jessica Ennis are the winners in the 2012 edition of the European Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards, the 30th annual poll conducted by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) Europe.
Novak was already a winner of the coveted award in 2011, while the British athlete took the women’s award from Italian swimmer Federica Pellegrini, AIPS Europe said in a release.
Novak accumulated a total of 39 votes, ten more than British double Olympic winner Mo Farah, according to a release on the AIPS website. Finishing in third place, with 28 votes, was Formula 1 Championship winner Sebastian Vettel.
