Top seed Novak Djokovic cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Chinese wild card, world no.219 Ze Zhang, on Thursday in Beijing, to advance to the quarter-finals of the China Open, an ATP World Tour 500 tennis tournament.
The 28-year-old Serb dominated the 55-minute match. He converted four of five break points and denied Zhang a single break point opportunity, improving to 65-5 on the season.
“The conditions are definitely suitable to my game,” said Novak. “I feel very pleasant playing on the center court. I guess as I keep coming back each year with that positive record, it gives me more confidence knowing that I played so well in the past on this court. I just keep on going.”
Match statistics: aces (4-3), double faults (2-1), winners (21-6), unforced errors (15-11).
In the quarter-finals on Friday, Novak will play against no.8 seed John Isner (H2H 7-2). The American prevailed over Australian qualifier John Millman in three sets.
Novak and Djordje Djokovic’s campaign in the men’s doubles ended after they suffered a straight set loss to Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock in the quarterfinals 6-4, 6-1.
