World no.1 Novak Djokovic is among the nominees for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award.
After winning the prestigious award for achievements in 2011 and 2014, the 11-time Grand Slam champion is once again among the world’s greatest sports stars.
Djokovic leads the men’s nominations along with Lionel Messi (Football), Stephen Curry (Basketball), Lewis Hamilton (Formula 1), Usain Bolt (Athletics) and Jordan Spieth (Golf).
The Laureus World Sports Awards are given annually since 2000 to sportspeople who have been outstanding during the previous calendar year.
Novak finished the 2015 season with a phenomenal 82-6 W/L record, including 11 titles. The 28-year-old Serbian star won three major events (Australian Open, Wimbledon, US Open), record six ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments (Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome, Shanghai, Paris), one ATP 500 category competition (China Open) and the season finale in London. He was also runner-up at Roland Garros.
The 17th edition of the Awards Ceremony will take place in Berlin on April 18.
The winners are selected by the members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, the living legends of sport honouring the greatest athletes of today.
