24-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, has appointed his long-time rival and friend, Andy Murray, as a head coach.

The agreement was finalised as a strategy plan for the upcoming season, with a primary focus on the preparation period and the Australian Open, where Novak will be aiming to capture a record-extending 11th title. He has previously won the trophy in Melbourne in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023.

“I’m excited to have one of my greatest rivals in my team, on the same side of the net, this time as my coach. I’m looking forward to starting the season together with Andy and having him by my side in Melbourne, where we’ve shared many extraordinary moments throughout our careers,” Novak said.

After the first Major event of the season, and depending on Djokovic’s tournament schedule, the two tennis greats will discuss the possible extension of their collaboration throughout the year.

“I’ll be joining Novak’s team during the preparation period, helping him get in the best possible shape for the Australian Open. I’m very excited about it and I am looking forward to being on the same side of the net for a change. I’m also grateful for the opportunity to assist him in achieving his goals for the coming year,” said Murray, a three-time Grand Slam titlist, five-time Australian Open finalist, former world no.1 and Olympic gold medalist.
