World no.2 Novak Djokovic has delighted his Latin American fans by announcing he will make his ATP debut in the region after accepting a wild card into the Abierto Mexicano Telcel.
The Serbian tennis ace joins a stellar field that also features Nadal, Cilic, Thiem, Goffin and del Potro.
The main draw for the ATP World Tour 500 event has been made on Sunday.
Novak is no.1 seed and will open his campaign against world no.65 Martin Klizan (SVK).
The 29-year-old Belgrade native could meet either Juan Martin del Potro (ARG) or a qualifier in the second round.
His possible rivals in the later stages of the tournament are:
Quarter-finals: Nick Kyrgios (AUS, 6), Bernard Tomic (AUS)
Semi-finals: Dominic Thiem (AUT, 4), David Goffin (BEL, 5)
Final: Rafael Nadal (ESP, 2), Marin Cilic (CRO, 3), John Isner (USA, 8)…
Novak is competing in his third ATP World Tour event of the season, having opened the year by beating Andy Murray in the Doha final before suffering a surprise second-round loss at the Australian Open to Denis Istomin. He has not competed since scoring a victory over Karen Khachanov during Serbia’s first-round Davis Cup win over Russia earlier this month.
