ATP list: Nole officially crowned world no.1!

Novak Djokovic is the new king of tennis!

Nole, the 2011 Wimbledon Champion, is officially crowned the 25th player to rank no.1 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings.

The 24-year-old Serb is ranked no.1 in the latest ATP Ranking List as of Monday, July 4, 2011, with 13,285 points.

He has become the first person in seven years to hold the no.1 ranking not called Roger or Rafa.

It is a particularly significant achievement in the age of Federer and Nadal, with two of the greatest players of all time playing some of their best tennis. “Both of them are so incredibly consistent with their success and so dominant the last couple of years. They don’t give you a lot of chances to become no.1. So I guess you need to lose only one match in seven months to get there. If you can do that — well done,” said Novak after securing no.1 spot on Friday.

Rafael Nadal is second with 11,270 points, 2,015 less than Nole. Roger Federer is third with 9,230, followed by Andy Murray – 6,855 and Robin Soderling – 4,325.

“Any athlete in the world dreams of being no.1 of the world. So finally when you really do it and when you know that you’re the best, it’s just an amazing achievement.”
