2014 China Open draw has been made on Saturday. The tournament begins on Monday, September 29, and features five players from the ATP’s top 10. Four-time champion Novak Djokovic is seeded no.1.
The 27-year-old Belgrade native will open his title defence at the ATP World Tour 500 event against world no.38, Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (6-0 H2H record).
Novak’s possible opponent’s in the later stages of the tournament are:
Second round: Lukas Rosol (CZE), Vasek Pospisil (CAN)
Quarter-finals: Grigor Dimitrov (BUL, 5), Julien Benneteau (FRA), Fernando Verdasco (ESP)
Semi-finals: Marin Cilic (CRO, 4), Andy Murray (GBR, 6)
Finals: Rafael Nadal (ESP, 2), Tomas Berdych (CZE, 3), Ernests Gulbis (LAT, 7)
Novak has won the Beijing tournament on all four occasions he has entered, beating Marin Cilic in 2009, David Ferrer in 2010, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2012 and Rafael Nadal in 2013 final – 6-3, 6-4.
Djokovic will start his 114th week at No.1 in the ATP Rankings on Monday.
He is the seventh player in ATP World Tour history to reach the milestone, joining Rafael Nadal (141), John McEnroe (170), Jimmy Connors (268), Ivan Lendl (270), Pete Sampras (286) and record holder Roger Federer (302).
The reigning Wimbledon titlist will pair up with fellow Serb Filip Krajinovic in the doubles competition. They face Ernests Gulbis (LAT) and Marcin Matkowski (POL).
