If we look at the upcoming Davis Cup clash against Czech Republic through the prism of US Open, expectations are certainly high. While the Serbian tennis players made great results in New York, members of the Czech team sufferred early exits and it seems they’re not in a good form.
The victory of the world no.2 Novak Djokovic (runner-up at Flushing Meadows) over the world’s greatest player of all time and a five-time US Open champion Roger Federer, Janko Tipsarevic ‘s triumph over former US Open champion Andy Roddick and the defeat of Czech no.1 Tomas Berdych in the first round, show that our team is in better form at the moment.
First matches against Czech Republic will be played on September 17, at home ground in Belgrade Arena. The Czechs are ranked second in the latest Davis Cup Ranking list, while the Serbian national team takes position no.6. It will certainly not be easy to beat the Czech team. Although we’re hosts, which is of course a great advantage, it is well known that Davis Cup matches don’t have the typical atmosphere of a tennis tournament, and players primarily play with their heart, for the success of their country.
Czechs will surely give their best in the Davis Cup, their fans are calling daily and buying tickets for the event in Arena. There is no doubt that Serbian team and fans will respond with the same desire.
