Davis Cup (Semifinals) Day 1: Serbia – Argentina 0-2

Argentina took giant step towards final with two wins on the opening day of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group semifinals taking place from 16-18 September in Belgrade.

The defending champion Serbia needs to win doubles on Saturday and both singles matches on Sunday to reach the finals for the second year in a row.

The world’s best player Novak Djokovic has pulled out of singles with lower back and rib pain. He has been replaced by Viktor Troicki. The world no.16 lost to David Nalbandian in the first match of the day 4-6, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6.

US Open quarter-finalist Janko Tipsarevic was beaten by the 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro in the second rubber 5-7, 3-6, 4-6.
