World no.3 Novak Djokovic advanced into record 17th Roland-Garros quarter-final with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory against 94th-ranked Juan Pablo Varillas on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Sunday.
The two-time French Open champion eased passed the Peruvian after one hour and 57 minutes of play.
Novak dominated his rival with two breaks of serve in each set, converting six of his 12 break point opportunities. He saved two of the three break points he faced.
“There was great energy on the court, from the crowd and myself as well,” said Nole. “I really enjoyed it, my best performance in the tournament so far. It came exactly at the right time, as I’m coming in to the second week and obviously – playing another quarter-final, the matches are going to get tougher. Bigger challenges, but I like the way I’m playing and the way I’m feeling, so I look forward to a new challenge.”
Match statistics: aces (7-3), double faults (3-0), winners (35-15), unforced errors (20-23), total points won (88-54).
Djokovic, the 22-time Grand Slam titlist, next takes on Karen Khachanov (8-1 H2H record).
