Monte Carlo is the third ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in 2009.
Monte Carlo Rolex Masters starts on Monday, April 13, and will be played til April 19. Prize money is € 2,750,000. The winner will get € 434,000 and 1000 ATP points.
Novak will open his clay season in the city of his residence.
The draw has been made on Saturday afternoon. 56 players will take part. Eight seeds (1-8) get BYE in the first round.
Nole is no.3 seed, and will start the tournament in the second round against qualifier Oscar Hernandez (ESP) who defeated Julien Benneteau (FRA) in straight sets.
Djokovic is in Federer’s half, and has a tough job on the way to the semifinals. He could meet clay court specialists in the third round and in the quarterfinals. In round three his opponent might be Nicolas Almagro, and he could meet Fernando Verdasco (ESP,7) or David Ferrer (ESP,10) in the quarterfinals.
Novak is defending 360 points in Monte Carlo. He reached semifinals in 2008, when he retired to Roger Federer, 3-6 2-3.
World no.1 Rafael Nadal is the defending champion. He defeated his great rival Roger Federer in the finals in straight sets, 7-5 7-5.
