Novak Djokovic is one win away from winning record-equaling eighth Wimbledon title after clinching a 6-4, 7-6 (2), 6-4 victory over Lorenzo Musetti to reach Sunday’s final. The second seed wrapped up a straight set win in two hours and 48 minutes.
Novak broke in the very first game to take the lead. He failed to convert on serve at 5-3, but then broke Musetti for 6-4 instead. In the second set that went to a tie-break, the Italian won just two points, and Djokovic took the momentum into the third set, again breaking in the first game.
“I have said it many times. Wimbledon has been a childhood dream for me – to play it and to win it. It is worth repeating I was a seven-year-old boy watching the bombs fly over my head and dreaming of being on the most important court in the world which is here in Wimbledon,” said Novak. “I try not to take it for granted every time I find myself on this unique court. Obviously during the match it is business time and I try out play my opponent. I am satisfied and pleased, but I don’t want to stop here – hopefully I get my hands on the trophy.”
Match statistics: aces (6-2), double faults (4-1), winners (34-34), unforced errors (31-22), total points won (116-98).
On Sunday, July 14, we will see second straight final at The All England Club between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.
The defending champion Alcaraz booked his spot in the final with a 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Daniil Medvedev.
Novak leads the Spaniard 3-2 in the pair’s ATP H2H series.
