Sony Open Tennis second seed Novak Djokovic recorded a 6-3, 7-5 win over world no.17 Tommy Robredo at Crandon Park on Tuesday in their fourth round meeting at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event.
The 26-year-old Serb landed 82% of his first service points and converted both break point chances he earned, to dismiss the Spaniard in front of the Stadium crowd in one hour and 22 minutes. The Belgrade native is through to his fifth quarter-final in Miami.
“It was a very solid win,” said Djokovic. “I made him play an extra shot in important moments and that’s why I’m satisfied with the overall match today.”
Match statistics: aces (5-2), double faults (2-1), winners (19-9), unforced errors (21-28), total points won (67-51)
Novak will next face the defending champion Andy Murray (GBR, 6) who beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in straight sets.
He holds an 11-8 H2H record against the Scot. Andy won their last encounter in 2013 Wimbledon finals (6-4, 7-5, 6-4).
Looking ahead to the match, Novak said: ”As the tournament progresses, matches are going to get tougher. All the top guys are still in play. There are no clear favorites on the court, so I’m going to get ready for that and hopefully perform my best.“
Djokovic is looking to clinch his second Indian Wells-Miami title double (also 2011). Last week, he lifted his 42nd career trophy at the BNP Paribas Open.
