Novak could become no.2 or remain no.3 player in the world on Monday!

Rafael Nadal failed in attempt to defend the title at the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, which gives Novak chance to secure position no.2 in the ATP Rankings already tomorrow.

After the defending champion Rafael Nadal retired in his quarter-final match of the Australian Open, he will lose 1640 points, so he will have 7670 points on Monday, which is 640 less than the best Serbian tennis player.

Novak is currently world no.3 with 8310 points, and if we do not count the outcome of tomorrow’s match, the Serb will have the same number of points on Monday because he defended quarter-finals from Melbourne 2009.

For Novak to become no.2, one of the following situations needs to happen:

- Novak needs to beat Tsonga (in this case no.2 position in the ATP Ranking List is secured)
-If he loses to Tsonga, and Murray doesn’t win the title

If Murray wins the title, and Novak loses to Tsonga, the Brit will be no.2, while Novak will remain in third place.

Good luck Nole!
