Second seed Novak Djokovic reached the last eight at Wimbledon for the 15th time on Monday, following a dominant 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Holger Rune (DEN, 15).

Novak capitalised on four of his 14 chances, having saved both break points he faced during the two hour, three-minute clash under the roof on the Centre Court.

The seven-time former champion dominated on serve throughout the match, winning 75 % of first serves and 72 % of second serves.

“I’m very pleased. I don’t think he has played anywhere close to his best to be honest. It was a tough start for him. He lost the first 12 points and I think that got to him mentally,” said Novak. “Waiting all day to come out on the court is never easy. The tension is building up and stressed to get out on the court. On my end I think I‘ve done things at the important moments. Things could have looked different if I lost those services games but very solid at the end and I’m very happy to get through in straight sets.”

Match statistics: aces (5-3), double faults (2-4), winners (21-15), unforced errors (22-29), total points won (91-69).

The world no.2 will next face ninth seed Alex de Minaur. The Australian beat NextGen ATP Arthur Fils in four sets.

“I’m feeling good, I played Alex a few times on different surfaces but this is the first time on grass, He’s one of the fittest guys on the tour. I’ll have to do a lot of running.”
