· Neuman brothers Danny and Pacey, both 13, and Mikey, 15, are sports fanatics and Miami Beach locals, who interview a different professional athlete each month and Sports Scene features their Q&As.
This month, the Neuman brothers interview tennis player Novak Djokovic.
- As a kid, what was one of the most dangerous things you’ve ever done?
Nole: I had a couple of embarrassing and dangerous moments.
- Embarrassing?
Nole: I don’t think it’s for camera. Quite embarrassing. I remember, I was maybe 7-8 years old. I went with my school, with my class somewhere south of our country, we went camping one day. We went early in the morning by bus and came back in the evening, but the problem was I came back without underwear! Because there was no toilet and we were in the middle of the forest and I couldn’t go anywhere so unfortunately I was in the towel for the rest of the trip!
- What’s the funniest or strangest thing that’s ever happened to you on the court?
Nole: I think when I did impersonations of the other players, that’s probably the funniest thing that’s ever happened to me. I really surprised even myself. I didn’t expect I was able to do that, but I think most of the people loved it so I’m happy.
- What was the most meaningful gift you’ve ever received?
Nole: I think my brothers.
- What was your most meaningful moment as a kid?
Nole: It was probably when I started playing tennis, I was four years old and I was just playing in front of the restaurant that my parents still own in the mountain resort back in my country.
- What was your biggest fear as a kid?
Nole: Animals probably. I was just afraid of some animals like snakes and spiders.
- Can you tell us something about yourself that people would be surprised to know?
Nole: I’m a sportive kind of guy. I really love sports besides tennis. I love to ski. I love snow.
- What was the first big thing you bought when you got your first big paycheck?
Nole: Let’s see. It’s hard to remember. I think I was sixteen when I got my first paycheck. It was not much, something around 100 dollars. I think I went and bought lunch for all of my friends and just celebrated.
- Who did you look up to as a kid and why?
Nole: As a tennis player, I had my idol and it was Pete Sampras. I remember the picture in my head when I saw him lifting up the Wimbledon trophy and I imagined myself in that position.
