World no.1 Novak Djokovic attended the official draw ceremony for 2014 Rogers Cup presented by National Bank at Queen’s Park on Friday afternoon.
The sixth ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event of the season will be played from August 4 to August 10 in Toronto.
Novak is a top seed and has a first round BYE. He will open campaign against Frenchman Gael Monfils (9-0 career H2H) who defeated Czech Radek Stepanek in straight sets.
Nole’s potential rivals in the later stages of the tournament are:
3rd round: Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA, 13), Jeremy Chardy (FRA)
Quarter-finals: Andy Murray (GBR, 8), Richard Gasquet (FRA, 12)
Semi-finals: Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI, 3), Grigor Dimitrov (BUL, 7), Kevin Anderson (RSA)
Roger Federer (SUI, 2), Tomas Berdych (CZE, 4), David Ferrer (ESP, 5), Milos Raonic (CAN, 6)… are placed on the opposite section of the draw.
Novak is the three-time former champion (2007, 2011-2012). He is bidding to win the trophy for the fourth time and add it to his collection of 19 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crowns.
Nole reached semis last year, where he fell to eventual titlist Rafael Nadal (4-6, 6-3, 5-7).
The Spaniard pulled out of this year’s event due to wrist injury.
