Serbia, Czech Republic tied at 1-1 after day 1!


World no.37 Janko Tipsarevic defeated Wimbledon finalist and world no.7 Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(5) in 3 hours and 38 minutes in the second match of the day to even the Davis Cup semi-final tie at 1-all.

Radek Stepanek gave Czech Republic a 1-0 lead earlier today as he beat world no.47 Viktor Troicki 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 in 2 hours and 59 minutes.

Troicki replaced the best Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic who has pulled out of opening singles due to exhaustion.

The doubles match is scheduled on Saturday at 15:00 CET. Serbian duo Nenad Zimonjic and Viktor Troicki face Ivo Minar and Jan Hajek.

On Sunday at 14:00 CET world no.2 Novak Djokovic plays against Tomas Berdych. The second match sees Tipsarevic take on Stepanek.

Team captains have the right to change the players until an hour before the match.
