Nole remains unbeaten in 2023 (W/L record 14-0).

Top seed and five-time former champion Novak Djokovic advanced to the last eight at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Wednesday when he defeated world no.39 Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets – 6-2, 6-3.

The match lasted one hour and 22 minutes.

Novak broke the Dutchman four times before surrendering the only break serving for the victory. He won 91 per cent (20/22) of points behind his powerful first serve and hit 29 winners.

“It’s been a great evening for me tonight,” said Djokovic. “Yesterday I really had to work hard to get a win. Tonight, right from the blocks, I think I was sharp. I played definitely better-quality tennis than I did last night. Maybe the last three or four games weren’t the best to close the match, but I managed to find a good serve in the end. I’m very pleased with the performance and with the way I felt on the court, and hopefully things can go in the right direction for tomorrow.”

Match statistics: aces (8-12), double faults (3-1), total points won (73-50).

Novak’s quarter-final opponent at the ATP 500 outdoor hard-court event will be fifth seed Hubert Hurkacz. He holds a perfect 4-0 ATP career H2H record against the Pole.
