{"id":117197,"date":"2019-02-18T18:55:20","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T17:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/novakdjokovic.com\/?p=117197"},"modified":"2019-02-26T13:24:50","modified_gmt":"2019-02-26T12:24:50","slug":"novak-wins-2019-laureus-sportsman-of-the-year-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novakdjokovic.com\/en\/news\/media\/novak-wins-2019-laureus-sportsman-of-the-year-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Novak wins 2019 Laureus Sportsman Of The Year Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>World No.1 Novak Djokovic was named the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laureus.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laureus<\/a> World Sportsman of the Year for the fourth time in a ceremony in Monaco on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Serbia\u2019s Djokovic beat Lewis Hamilton (Formula 1 world champion), LeBron James (NBA great), Luka Modric (FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner), Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 (FIFA best young player) and Eliud Kipchoge (world marathon record holder) for the top men\u2019s award.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old Belgrade native also earned Sportsman of the Year honours in 2012, 2015 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Nole was at the famous &#8220;Salle des Etoiles&#8221;, part of The Sporting Club Monte Carlo, to accept his award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cA Laureus Award is what every athlete wants to win, and this one is a huge honour for me. Being among so many sporting greats here tonight\u2026 gives this award a special meaning for me,\u201d<\/strong> said Djokovic. <strong>\u201cLast year was an incredible season for me. Returning from injury to win Wimbledon and the US Open is something I\u2019ll remember forever.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Novak was honoured for his remarkable 2018. He went 53-12, winning four titles (two Grand Slams \u2013 Wimbledon and US Open, and two Masters 1000 events \u2013 Shanghai and Cincinnati).
