Nole won the Best Male Tennis Player award at the 20th Annual ESPY<\/a> Awards ceremony held in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The ESPY, short for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly, honors sports achievement in the past calendar year, with the winners decided by online fan balloting at the ESPN website.<\/p>\n

Nole came out ahead over both of his hottest tennis rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.<\/p>\n

He was also nominated for Best Male Athlete (won by LeBron James) and Best International Athlete (won by Lionel Messi).<\/p>\n

In 2011, Novak won three Grand Slam titles (Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open) and a record five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies. He put together the fourth-longest run at no.1<\/a> since making his debut atop the ATP Rankings on July 4, 2011.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The award for Best Female Tennis Player went to Maria Sharapova.<\/p>\n
