World no.1 Novak Djokovic beat top-ranked American Sam Querrey 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0 in two hours and 35 minutes to give the 2010 champions an unassailable 3-1 lead over USA in\u00a0their quarterfinal contest at Boise State University’s Taco Bell Arena.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\nNovak twisted his ankle early in the match, but continued to battle feeling responsible to keep playing for his country in the sport’s only team competition.<\/p>\n
The 25-year-old Belgrade native took the opening set 7-5, but Querrey fought back winning the second set tie-breaker.<\/p>\n
Novak stepped up to the champion level and cruised through the third and fourth sets to clinch tie for his team.<\/p>\n
Match statistics<\/span>: aces (12-7), double faults (6-8), winners (41-27), unforced errors (47-58), total points won (136-103).<\/p>\n“I’m very happy I managed to play the whole match and that I played really well in the third and fourth sets,’<\/strong> said Novak. “It’s very strong emotion when you play for your country. I guess that’s the biggest reason why I kept playing.
