Serbia and Canada are tied 1-1 in their\u00a0Davis Cup by BNP Paribas<\/a>\u00a0World Group semifinal tie after Day 1.<\/p>\n

World no.1 Novak Djokovic put 2010 winners Serbia up against Canada in \u00a0front of a passionate 15,000 home crowd\u00a0in Kombank Arena (Belgrade, 13-15 September).<\/p>\n

Nole beat no.41-ranked Vasek Pospisil in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4 in one hour and 40 minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

From 1-2 in the opening set, Djokovic won 13 games in a row, breaking Pospisil six times. He hasn’t faced a single break point during the\u00a0one-sided contest.<\/p>\n

“It’s always great to win a Davis Cup match especially in front of a home crowd because you represent your country and I can say that it’s been a fantastic performance for me given that I only got here 48 hours ago,”<\/strong> Novak said. “There is a possibility I might play in the doubles tomorrow but team captain Bogdan Obradovic will have the final say. Either way this win will have boosted my confidence and the overall team spirit.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nole landed 85% of points on his first service and won impressive 12 out of 14 points when approaching the net.<\/p>\n

Match statistics<\/span>: aces (3-9), double faults (0-1) winners (33-31), unforced errors (22-49).<\/p>\n

Milos Raonic (11) overcame Janko Tipsarevic (23) in a thrilling five-setter to keep Canada’s hopes alive.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Podgorica native saved a match point in the fifth set to prevail 5-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 10-8 in 4 hours and 11 minutes.<\/p>\n

Saturday’s doubles rubber will see Serbia’s Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac versus Canadian duo of Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil, while in Sunday’s reverse singles Djokovic plays Raonic and Tipsarevic faces Pospisil.<\/p>\n

Team captains have the right to change the players until an hour before the match.<\/p>\n
