After reaching quarter-final in Monte Carlo two weeks ago, Novak continues his clay court season at the second ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on clay in 2017, the Mutua Madrid Open<\/a> (May 7- May 14).<\/p>\n

The defending champion is no.2 seed and has a first-round BYE. He will open his campaign at La Caja M\u00e1gica against Spanish wild card Nicolas Almagro (H2H 4-0).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Novak\u2019s potential rivals in the later stages of the tournament are:<\/p>\n

3rd round<\/strong>: Gael Monfils (FRA, 15), Gilles Simon (FRA), Feliciano Lopez (ESP)
\nQuarter-finals<\/strong>: Kei Nishikori (JPN, 6), Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA, 10), David Ferrer (ESP)
\nSemi-finals<\/strong>: Rafael Nadal (ESP, 4), Milos Raonic (CAN, 5), David Goffin (BEL, 9)<\/p>\n

Andy Murray (GBR, 1), Stan Wawrinka (SUI, 4), Marin Cilic (CRO, 7), Dominic Thiem (AUT, 8) … are in the top half of the draw and Djokovic can\u2019t meet them before the final<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Novak lifted the trophy twice in the capital of Spain, in 2011 and 2016. Last year he beat Murray in the final (6-2, 3-6, 6-3).<\/strong><\/p>\n
