World no.2 Novak Djokovic is through to the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters quarter-finals after 6-4, 6-4 win over no.13 seed Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in 1 hour and 41 minutes.
Djokovic broke Wawrinka in the opening game, but the Swiss broke back immediately. The 22-year-old Belgrade native converted his second break point in the ninth game and took the set 6-4 in 56 minutes.
Novak was 4-1 and two breaks up in the second set. Wawrinka broke back once in the sixth game. Second-seeded Djokovic faced a break point serving for the match but saved it after a 22-shots rally and won it 6-4.
Nole has lost only twice to the Swiss in ten matches.
The best Serbian tennis player next takes on David Nalbandian. The Argentine defeated no.12 seed Spaniard Tommy Robredo in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Djokovic and Nalbandian have met three times, Novak leads 2-1.
