2009 Madrid semi-finalist, Novak Djokovic, advanced into the quarter-finals of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win over world no.29 Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in only 52 minutes on Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario court.
Djokovic was very confident in his third round match on Thursday. Garcia-Lopez couldn’t find a solution for Novak’s perfect shots and the Serb cruised through sets.
The 23-year old won the first 6-1 in just 23 minutes with breaks in the second and fourth games.
He broke the Spaniard twice in the second set and served out the match 6-2.
Djokovic made 5 unforced errors, 12 less than his opponent.
He hit 24 winners to the Spaniard’s 7.
The Serb converted 4 of his 7 break points, while Garcia-Lopez didn’t have a single chance for break.
The world no.2 won 100 percent of his first serves (21/21)!
“I was winning my service games really comfortably and that’s something that I’m happy about today,” said Novak after the match. “It’s a very encouraging fact for my upcoming matches especially on clay where you don’t expect that many free points with the serve. It’s important for me to see that I raised the level of performance today for upcoming quarter-finals.”
Nole will face no.6 seed David Ferrer for a semi-final spot. The Spaniard beat Ukranian Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-3, 7-6.
The best Serbian tennis player of all time has improved to a perfect 29-0 this season and levelled former world no.1 Ivan Lendl’s 29-0 start in 1986.
Djokovic increased his overall winning streak to 31 wins in a row, dating back to last December’s Davis Cup final.
