Novak Djokovic continued his perfect start at SW19 following a composed win over Jordan Thompson on Centre Court.
The second seed recorded a 6-3, 7-6, 7-5 victory to book his spot in the Wimbledon third round in two hours and 27 minutes.
Thompson did his best to challenge the 23-time Grand Slam titlist with massive serves, but he was unable to put up stronger resistance and fight as Djokovic was flawless on his own service games.
The 36-year-old Serbian star converted two of his five break point opportunities and did not face a single break point during his first career meeting with the Australian.
The triumph is Nole’s 30th consecutive Wimbledon victory, 350th Grand Slam win, and he is through to the third round of the most prestigious tennis event for the 17th time.
“I don’t really know if I wanted to meet him this early in the tournament,” said Djokovic of his big-serving opponent. “Congratulations to him for the performance, he was a bit unlucky but he played a great match. I try to enjoy every moment I spend on Centre Court. It’s a huge privilege, especially at this age when I’m still trying to push forward with the young guns. I don’t know how long that’s going to go on but so far, so good.”
Match statistics: aces (8-21), double faults (0-2), winners (40-43), unforced errors (13-20), total points won (109-89).
His next rival will be Stan Wawrinka (SUI, ATP #88, H2H 20-6) who defeated 29th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry (ARG) in four sets.
