In his quest for a 100th tour-level title, Novak Djokovic defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday to advance to the fourth round of the Rolex Shanghai Masters.

Novak broke twice in each set. The four-time champion claimed a dominant win over the Italian in just 63 minutes.

“From the beginning I had a clear game plan of what I needed to do, staying aggressive and trying to use every short ball to take the initiative in the point,” said Djokovic, who improved to 34-8 on the season. “Cobolli was evidently exhausted after last night’s match. I haven’t played too many matches, I think the positive in that is that I’m fresh, so I am happy to play every day for as long as it takes.”

Match statistics: aces (3-2), double faults (2-1), winners (20-6), unforced errors (14-20), total points won (62-33).

Novak will face Roman Safiullin in the fourth round (2-0 H2H record). The Russian eliminated 13th seed Frances Tiafoe (USA) in three tight sets (5-7, 7-5, 7-6).
