During the inaugural dinner of the Novak Djokovic Foundation in New York in September 2012, three tickets were sold to support the NECKER CUP, the world’s most exclusive Pro-Am, held on Sir Richard Branson’s private getaway Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands on December 9-13, 2012 Ticket buyers got a chance to play alongside Novak Djokovic, John McEnroe and Sir Richard Branson and to spend 4 days on the Necker Island. The funds from the purchase of those tickets went to help pre-school children in Serbia.
Djokovic was joined on Necker Island by the world’s greatest doubles team the Bryan Brothers, John McEnroe, Tommy Haas, and Mark Philippoussis, among others.
“To have Novak and so many other great players participating in the Necker Cup is very exciting”, said Trevor Short, President of Premier Tennis Travel. “They’re all great ambassadors for the game on and off the court.”
Each evening ended with a unique cocktail and dinner experience concluding with an “End of the World” awards dinner, party and auction on December 12 at Rosewood Little Dix Bay where the Legends Tennis Camp participants had a chance to meet with Sir Richard and mingle with the past and current tennis stars. One hundred percent of all donations from the auction would directly benefit the local BVI community, Virgin Unite, the National Tennis Foundation, Novak Djokovic Foundation and other ATP and WTA player charities. During live and silent auction where guests were bidding on many interesting items donated by various athletes, artists, and celebrities, it was raised more than $500,000.
This was a great entertaining, sporting and humanitarian event. Novak Djokovic helped raise $240,000 through the charity auction by donating one-on-one private tennis lesson, plus box seats for the US Open, as well as making personal donation.
We are proud to inform that $144,000 will be put aside to support Novak Djokovic Foundation. The rest of the money raised will go to fund other foundations respectively.
“We are truly excited to leverage the Necker Cup as a vehicle to give back, which is a cornerstone of the event”, said Remington Reynolds, CEO of Premier Tennis Travel.
Novak Djokovic Foundation is very grateful for the support and contribution by Sir Richard Branson and Premier Tennis Travel in helping raise the funds for Foundation’s programs in Serbia.
