The best Serbian tennis player arrived in Belgrade on Sunday March 1st at 2pm, one day after he won his first title of 2009, and twelfth in his career.
Straight from the airport Novak went to “Gale Muskatirovic” sports center, the place where the first ATP tournament in Belgrade and Serbia – “Serbia Open 2009″ will be held from May 2-10.
”I’m pleasantly surprised how much has been done already. Everything’s going well according to the plan, which makes me happy. I can’t wait to see how everything will look, when all the work is done on April 15” – Novak seems eager.
The tournament in Serbia (ATP World Tour 250) will be played on clay for 450,000 euros prize money. The qualifying and the main draw will each have 32 players, and there will be 16 pairs in the doubles draw.
The organisers announced that Fernando Verdasco, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moya, Ivan Ljubicic and Radek Stepanek will most probably take part along with the world number three, and the promoter should be Pete Sampras.
The tickets for the first ATP spectacle in Serbia should be on sale in the first half of March.
