Fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic booked his place in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon (grass, £ 12,550,000) for the second time in his career, after defeating world no.46 Dudi Sela of Israel in straight sets 6-2 6-4 6-1 in just 89 minutes.
Novak saved three break points in a row in the third game of the match. He broke his opponent’s service twice, in the sixth and eighth game to take the first set 6-2.
There were no breaks in the second set until the eighth game. Novak first made a break, but Sela broke back immediately. The 22-year old converted the third break-set point in the tenth game for 6-4.
Djokovic was dominant in the third set and won it convincingly 6-1, making three breaks, while he got broken once.
Djokovic served 11 aces to Sela’s 1.
He hit 30 winners to his opponent’s 12.
Nole converted 7 of his 13 chances for break, while Sela capitalised on 2 of his 6 break points.
Novak will play against no.24 seed Tommy Haas for a place in the semifinals. The German beat Russian Igor Andreev 7-6 6-4 6-4.
Djokovic and Haas have met three times, Nole leads 2-1. Haas won their last match in Halle two weeks ago 3-6 7-6(4) 1-6.
