The draw has been made for the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Toronto ($3,000,000). The sixth Masters tournament of the season begins on Monday, August 9, and will be held till August 15.

After almost a month off, world no.2 Novak Djokovic begins his North American summer hard court season in the largest city in Canada. The best Serbian tennis player is second seed and has a first-round BYE.

He will open his campaign in the second round against either world no.32 Frenchman Julien Benneteau or a qualifier. Djokovic and Benneteau have met four times, Nole leads 3-1.

Novak’s potential opponents in the later stages of the tournament are:

3rd round: Jurgen Melzer (AUT,13)
Quarter-finals: Nikolay Davydenko (RUS,6), Fernando Verdasco (ESP,9), Marcos Baghdatis (CYP)
Semi-finals: Roger Federer (SUI,3), Tomas Berdych (CZE,7), Mikhail Youzhny (RUS,12), Nicolas Almagro (ESP,14)

Rafael Nadal (ESP,1), Andy Murray (GBR,4), Robin Soderling (SWE,5) Andy Roddick (USA,8)… are in the upper part of the draw.

Last year Djokovic lost his quarterfinal match against American Andy Roddick 4-6, 6-7(4).

This will be Novak’s fourth appearance at the Rogers Cup. The 23-year-old Belgrade native won the title on his 2007 debut in Montreal (defeated Federer in the final).

Andy Murray is a defending champion. He beat del Potro in last year’s final.

Novak will also play doubles at the Rogers Cup. He will team up with world no.1 Spaniard Rafael Nadal. It will be the first time since 1976 that the top two players in the world play competitive doubles together. The draw will be made on Saturday at 6pm local time.
