Confident Novak marches into the Sony Ericsson Open quarterfinals!

Novak Djokovic powered into the quarterfinals of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Miami. He defeated no.21 seed Czech Tomas Berdych in straight sets 6-3 6-2 in 72 minutes.

Berdych saved a couple of break points in the third game of the first set, but the world number three used his fifth chance and broke to go 2-1 up. The Czech lost his serve to love in the ninth game and Djokovic took the set 6-3.

Nole was broken in the third game of the second set, but he broke back immediately to equalise the result. The Serb put the pressure on his opponent and made two more breaks for 6-2.

”I knew he’s very aggressive, but not really consistent from the baseline,” Djokovic said. “He makes a lot of unforced errors, especially from the forehand side, so I changed the pace and I played really good tennis today.”

Third-seeded Djokovic will face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (10) in the quarterfinals. The Frenchman beat his compatriot Gilles Simon (7) in three sets, 6-7 6-3 6-2.

Novak won their first match in the finals of the Australian Open in 2008, Tsonga won the last four.

”I knew he’s very aggressive, but not really consistent from the baseline,” Djokovic said. “He makes a lot of unforced errors, especially from the forehand side, so I changed the pace and I played really good tennis today.”
