Djokovic safely into fourth round of Miami!


Third-seeded Novak Djokovic advanced to the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open with a 6-4 6-1 victory over Paul-Henry Mathieu (FRA, 31) in 1 hour and 16 minutes at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament in Miami.

After failing to capitalise on break opportunities in the first and third game of the match, the best Serbian tennis player faced two break points in the fourth, but held to equalise the result to 2:2. Mathieu handed him the next game making two double faults in a row. Serving for the set at 5-4, Nole had to save a break point before closing it 6-4.

Djokovic broke his opponent’s service in the third game of the second set and then held to increase his lead to 3-1. The Frenchman made a double fault again on a break point to go two breaks down. World number three earned a break/match point in the seventh game. Mathieu made his eleventh double fault and Nole took the set 6-1.

Novak served 4 aces to Mathieu’s 1 and made 2 double faults to his opponent’s 11.
The Serb hit 18 winners to the Frenchman’s 9.
Nole converted 4 of his 7 break points, Mathieu didn’t use any of his 3 chances.

Djokovic will meet Czech Tomas Berdych (21) (def. American James Blake) for quarterfinal spot. In their only match in Bangkok last year Novak beat him 7-5 6-1.
