London: Novak in Group A with Murray, Ferrer and Berdych!

World no.1 Novak Djokovic will finish his historic season in London at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. The 24-year-old Belgrade native has had an unforgettable year with a 69-4 match record and a 10-1 record in title matches, including three Grand Slam championships and five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies.

The best eight singles players and the best eight doubles teams of the season have qualified for the world’s biggest indoor tournament which begins on Sunday, November 20, at the O2 Arena in London, and will be played until November 27.

The event is a round robin format with eight players divided in two groups of four. Nole is the no.1 seed and he’s placed in Group A, with Murray, Ferrer and Berdych.

Group A

1. Novak Djokovic (Serbia)
4. Andy Murray (Great Britain)
5. David Ferrer (Spain)
7. Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic)

Group B

2. Rafael Nadal (Spain)
3. Roger Federer (Switzerland)
6. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France)
8. Mardy Fish (USA)

Nole’s head-to-head record against the participants:

Rafael Nadal 13-16
*Andy Murray 6-4
Roger Federer 10-14
*David Ferrer 6-4
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-5
* Tomas Berdych 7-1
Mardy Fish 7-0

The winner of each group will be placed in separate semi-final brackets, with the top player in Group A playing the runner-up in Group B and vice versa.

For each Round Robin win players will get 200 points, semi-final win brings 400 points, and the win in the finals is worth 500 additional points. Undefeated champion can earn 1500 points.

Last year Novak scored two wins and a loss in his RR group (beat Tomas Berdych and Andy Roddick, lost to Rafael Nadal) which was enough for a semi-final spot. He fell to eventual champion Roger Federer 1-6, 4-6.

Nole (1 title-2008) and Roger (5 titles-2003, ’04, ’06, ’07 and ‘10) are the only participants of this year’s Finals who have won the competition at least once.

World no.9 Janko Tipsarevic is the first alternate in case one of the Top 8 players withdraws from the tournament.

Nenad Zimonjic (Serbia) and Daniel Nestor (Canada) were crowned doubles champions in 2010 in their last match together.

The world’s top two doubles pairings, Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan (USA, 1) and Nenad Zimonjic and Michael Llodra (SRB/FRA, 2), lead doubles Groups A and B.

Good luck Nole!
