Nole battles through to the quarterfinals!


Defending champion Novak Djokovic booked himself a place in the quarterfinals of Indian Wells Masters tournament with a hard-fought 7-6(7), 7-6(6) win over no.16 seed Stanislas Wawrinka in 2 hours and 22 minutes.

Djokovic began the match with a comfortable service game, losing just one point. He made a break in the second game and then held for 3-0. After failing to convert a break point for 4-0, his game deteriorated. Wawrinka broke back in the fifth game and then held his serve to level at 3-3. The set went to a tie-breaker. Novak saved a set point and managed to win it 9-7.

Number three seed had a chance for a break in the opening game of the second set, but the Swiss held. Wawrinka earned himself three break points in the sixth game and converted the third to go 4-2 up. World no.16 then held to increase his lead to 5-2. Nole started playing much better and broke his opponent’s service in the ninth game. Serving at 4-5 he saved a set point and equalised the result. The set was also decided in a tie-breaker. The Serb used his second match point to take it 8-6.

Djokovic will play against American Andy Roddick (7) for a place in the semifinals. Roddick beat Spaniard David Ferrer (12) in three sets.
