Nole crushes Hernandez in Monte Carlo opener!

Third-seeded Novak Djokovic sealed his place in the third round of Monte Carlo Rolex Masters with an easy 6-1 6-2 win over world no.65 Oscar Hernandez in 1 hour and 18 minutes.

Novak was impressive in his first clay court match of 2009 (apart from DC tie in Benidorm). He was dominant in every aspect of the game from the beginning til the end of the match, not giving the slightest hope and chance for surprise to his opponent.

Last year’s semifinalist made a break already in the second game using his fifth break point. Hernandez broke back immediately, but the 21-year old managed to break the Spaniard’s service twice more til the end of the set and closed it 6-1.

Nole continued playing well in the rest of the match. Two breaks in the second set were enough for him to take it 6-2.

”I didn’t quite expect to perform that good, considering the fact that I didn’t have any matches, singles matches, on this surface, and I had very little time to make this transition,” said Djokovic. “But I was really playing aggressive and patient at the same time. This combination is really important for this surface. So hopefully I can continue.”

Novak’s opponent in the third round of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tennis tournament will be Albert Montanes (ESP) who beat Jean-Rene Lisnard (MON) in straight sets.

The match is scheduled on Thursday.
