The best Serbian tennis player and no.1seed Novak Djokovic booked a place in the quarterfinals of Serbia Open (clay, €450,000) with a three sets win over his compatriot world no.63 Janko Tipsarevic 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 in 2 hours.
Novak started well on his debut in his hometown. With a confident game he made two breaks in the first set for 6-2.
Many fantastic rallies were seen, especially in the second set, and the fans in the packed stands of the centre court could enjoy the high quality tennis from both players. Tipsarevic made one break more than Nole and won the set 6-4.
Djokovic raised the level of his game in the third set, while Janko started making errors, and lost his momentum. Novak was dominating. He made three breaks to take it 6-0.
The quarterfinal match is scheduled on Friday. Nole will meet no.2 racquet of Serbia, and another Belgrade born player, Viktor Troicki.
World no.38 won their only match in Umag back in 2007. The result was 2-6 6-4 7-5.
One thing is sure, Serbia will have a semifinalist on Saturday!
