Nole falls to Federer in London, leads Serbia in the Davis Cup final next week



Third-seeded Novak Djokovic failed in attempt to reach his fifth ATP final of the season. He lost to world no.2 Swiss Roger Federer in Saturday’s second singles semi-final 1-6, 4-6 in 1 hour and 19 minutes at the ATP World Tour Finals in London.

This was Novak’s fourth successive appearance at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. He got two wins and earned 400 ATP points.

Djokovic will remain third in the ATP rankings after Rafael Nadal beat Andy Murray earlier today. The best Serbian tennis player will end Year as number 3 for the fourth consecutive year!

Novak double-faulted on a break point in his opening service game and found himself a double-break down after Federer capitalised on his fourth opportunity in the sixth game. The Swiss took the set 6-1 in 31 minutes.

The 23-year old Serb started the second set well, breaking Federer’s serve in the second game and consolidating the break for 3-0 lead. The no.2 seed broke back in the fifth game and then held to love to level the result. Novak was broken for the fourth time in the match in the ninth game and Federer closed the set and match 6-4 to set up final with Rafael Nadal.

“Roger was on top of his game. I think he was playing unbelievable from the first moment. He deserved to win. He was the better player today. I’m a little bit disappointed to finish this way, I was not playing the way I wanted. I will try to play better next week, ” said Djokovic after the match.

The season is not finished for Nole. He will lead Serbia in the Davis Cup final against France taking place in Belgrade on 3-5 December.

Viktor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic have also been selected in Serbian team, while Gael Monfils, Gilles Simon, Michael Llodra and Arnaud Clement are in France’s squad.

The tie will be held on an indoor hard court in Belgrade Arena (capacity 15,200).
