Nole honoured, Serbian pair into second round of doubles



Serbian pair Novak Djokovic and Janko Tipsarevic came through a close battle with Mark Knowles and Philipp Petzschner to advance into the second round of the doubles competition at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal.

The Bahamian/German duo took the opening set 7-5, but Nole and Janko fought back to clinch the second 6-3 in 31 minutes. Djokovic and Tipsarevic were down 5-7 in super tie-breaker and saved a match point at 8-9, before turning the result in their favour to win it 12-10.

The match lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes.

They next face no.7 seeds, Polish combination Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.

The new world no.1 has been honoured tonight at the Uniprix Stadium. Here’s the video:

Nole will begin his campaign in singles competition against world no.30 Nikolay Davydenko. The Russian beat Italian qualifier Flavio Cipolla 6-3, 6-3.

It will be the sixth encounter between Djokovic and Davydenko, Novak leads 3-2.
