Nole powers into quarter-finals!

World no.2 Novak Djokovic recorded straight-sets win on Thursday at the Rogers Cup to reach quarter-final of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 hard-court tennis tournament in Toronto.

Second seed Djokovic needed 1 hour and 20 minutes to dismiss Romanian Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-4 in the fourth match on Grandstand.

Novak capitalised on his break point in the fourth game to go up 3-1 in the opening set. Hanescu had a chance to break back in the seventh game, but the 23-year-old Serb held and took the set 6-3 in 42 minutes.

Djokovic raced through the third game of the second set with fantastic returns and forehand winners, breaking his opponent’s service without dropping a point. The Romanian broke back in the eighth game to level the score, but Nole converted his second break point opportunity in the very next game and closed the set and match 6-4.

Match statistics: aces (2-1), double faults (1-2), winners (22-16), unforced errors (17-22), total points won (68-52).

“The crowd was really into the match,” said Djokovic. “I enjoyed it. The weather was not as bad as it was yesterday, so it made my life a little bit easier. Overall performance was great. I have to be happy about it.”

For a place in his fifth ATP semi-final of the season Novak will face Frenchman Jeremy Chardy who upset no.6 seed Russian Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 6-2.

Djokovic will take a 4-0 record into his quarter-final encounter against French no.9. The match is scheduled on Saturday about 3:00am CET.
