World number four Novak Djokovic defeated Romanian Victor Hanescu in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 in 1 hour and 29 minutes in his debut at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Beijing (hard, $2,100,500).
The China Open features half of the ATP’s top 10, Djokovic is no.2 seed.
The best Serbian tennis player started the match well, making a break already in the second game. The Romanian broke back, but Djokovic put the pressure again in the sixth game to break for the second time. Nole saved two break points in the next game and held to increase his lead to 5-2. He won the set 6-3 in 39 minutes.
There were five breaks of service in the second set, Novak made one more than his opponent to take it 7-5.
Djokovic will next face his compatriot world no.28 Viktor Troicki. The Serb beat Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini 7-6(5), 7-5. Novak and Viktor have met twice. Troicki won in Umag two years ago, Nole was better in Belgrade this year.
