Novak advances to fourth round of French Open



Third-seeded Novak Djokovic reached the fourth round of the second Grand Slam of the season with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over no.31 seed Romanian Victor Hanescu in 2 hours and 38 minutes on Saturday.

A break in the second game of the first set was enough for Novak to take it 6-3.

The world no.3 lost his momentum in the second set and dropped it 3-6.

Djokovic broke Hanescu’s serve in the seventh game of the third set and won it 6-3.

The 23-year-old Belgrade native raised the level of his game in the fourth set. Hanescu was leading 2-0. Nole won six games in a row to book himself a place in the fourth round.

Match statistics: aces (2-5), double faults (8-1), winners (44-41), unforced errors (25-31), total points won (117-101)

Djokovic’s next rival is Robby Ginepri. The American upset no.16 seed and 2003 Roland Garros champion Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in five sets 7-5, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 6-4.

Novak leads their head-to-heads 4-0.

The match is scheduled on Monday.
